Bolivar Peninsula, TX - Crown Team Texas, through its subsidiary Coastal Components, has set the first of many hurricane-resistant modular homes on pilings in its new coastal community, Audubon Village.
Once complete, these homes will earn the Fortified…for safer living® designation from the Institute for Business & Home Safety (IBHS). This construction program ensures a home meets specific design, construction and landscaping criteria to increase its overall resistance to natural hazards (i.e., hurricane winds and flood waters) based on its location.
The structure on Bolivar Peninsula, located 60 miles southeast of Houston and three miles north of Galveston Island, is the first modular home in the United States sited as part of the Fortified…for safer living® program. Crown Team Texas is the first developer in Texas to build to the “Fortified” standard.
Audubon Village is located 1.5 miles east of Rollover Pass in the city of Gilchrist on the Bolivar Peninsula. The coastal community will meld together a nature preserve, planned residential development and the relaxing beachside lifestyle of the Peninsula. All homes are constructed 27 feet above sea level for added safety. Approximately 350 acres of the development have been set aside by Crown Team Texas and the Houston Audubon Society as a permanent nature reserve for the preservation of the Peninsula’s world-class birding population.
